CSD HISTORY

 

China Surgical Dressings Center Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as CSD) was founded in 1947 by the first-generation Chairman, Mr. Yan-Dong Chang, in his hometown of Changhua, Taiwan, and started his business with medical gauze, which was the earliest manufacturer in Taiwan to invest in the profession of disposable surgical dressing.

 

 

 

 

THREE GENERATIONS OF BUSINESS OPERATORS: HAVING VISION, INSIGHT, AND CREATIVITY


During the post-war recovery period, almost all medical supplies were imported from Japan. Mr. Yan-Dong Chang, the founder of the company, fully realized the importance of Taiwan's own ability to manufacture medical consumables, and decided to go to Japan to learn about gauze, cotton and other dressing production, replacing the gauze production method of the early days when only the most primitive methods of bleaching and sterilization were used in Taiwan. After returning to Taiwan in 1947, he successively established and developed Taiwan's first medical consumable factory, Ri Dung Factory, and Fung Fu Factory, which eventually led to the birth of CSD, and set "Sound Management To Serve Society" as the motto of the company. Today we are still the largest and most longstanding medical consumables manufacturing company in Taiwan. Because of the vision of the first-generation Chairman, Taiwan's medical supplies became self-sufficient.

 

Shortly after Mr. Michael Chang, the second-generation Chairman, took over the company, the rise of China, the opening of Cross-strait communication, and the price cuts competition by numerous factories, resulted in the loss of 80% of the company's export orders. Although he had considered closing the company, he then decided to set up a new factory in China. And what made him make this decision is the vision of establishing the family business and the responsibility to each employee in mind. He led CSD to survive in the price war, and also realized that sticking to the price war is not a sustainable way of operation. When no medical material factory cared about certification, CSD started to carry out the costly certification process, and pioneered in the industry by obtaining hundreds of domestic and international quality certificates. Later on, when all the manufacturers shifted from China to Southeast Asian countries due to the cheaper labor costs, CSD shifted its focus back to Taiwan to deepen the domestic market, and at the same time, invested heavily in the certification of inspection equipment and manufacturing process, focusing on the improvement of the manufacturing process. Because of this insight, CSD has laid a solid foundation for quality assurance.

 

When President Mr. Jonathan Chang, the third-generation leader, joined the company, he felt that the brand was in a difficult situation of aging and its popularity was only in the professional medical field. Upholding the spirit of Health in Style, CSD has broken the conservative framework of the medical industry since 2016 and started the trend of colored masks, which has been upgraded to fashionable lifestyle boutiques. Moreover, in 2020, CSD became the first medical brand to enter the international fashion show "Berlin Fashion Week", breaking through the stereotypes and barriers, and making the fashion style as the first impression of CSD in people's memory. This vision also opens up a wonderful opportunity for CSD to successfully reform its brand, leading the designers to reshape their brand image, so as to be closer to the consumers' needs, and create an aesthetic blueprint for a healthy and quality life.
